The Overall Design of the Nextbase 612GW Dash Cam
With the previous 2 models that we reviewed, we weren’t overly impressed with the design. They weren’t bad, but they were nothing special. With the 612GW, this is definitely not the case. Just by taking a look at the dash cam in the box we were instantly impressed.
With the 612GW you get a brushed aluminium casing which not only looks great but feels great in the hand too. As well as this, it helps to create an extra durable feel to the camera itself. Taking a look around the back of the camera, you are presented with the LCD screen.
This is where the Nextbase 612GW really shines. This dash cam has a complete touch screen which is incredibly sleek and modern. It looks great and is a pleasure to use. Overall, we have to say that we were very impressed with the design of this dash cam from the Nextbase range indeed. A lot of thought has gone into the shape and style as well as the materials that have been used. It is also very slim line in comparison to the other models.
Using the Nextbase 612GW Dash Cam
Starting off, the installation of the dash cam itself is very easy indeed. There are both permanent and semi-permanent mounts provided with the camera, so you can choose which one is best for you personally. We chose the semi-permanent option for review purposes and we found the overall process really easy. The Nextbase click and mount system is really useful and the magnet is more than powerful enough.
One thing that we especially like about the Nextbase 612GW is the touch screen. Although we were impressed with the touch screen on the 412GW, this one far exceeded our expectations. It is incredibly sensitive and because of the lack of buttons there is nothing fiddly or messy about it. All of the features can be easily accessed via using the touch controls and the resolution of the LCD screen is fantastic.
One thing that we did notice about this particular dash cam is that it does tend to get quite hot in warmer weather. If you live in an area that is particularly prone to warmer weather then this might not be the dash cam for you because it is likely to overheat in extreme temperatures. This aside, the experience that we had using this dash cam was a very good one.
The Recording Quality of the Nextbase 612GW Dash Cam
As you can imagine, the recording quality of the Nextbase 612GW is where it really stands out from the competition. With 4K ultra HD recording, the resolution of this dash cam is far superior to any of the others in this particular range.
We found that daytime recording was incredibly crisp and clear; we had no issues at all with either the sound or the image quality. The only issue that we had which we were actually quite surprised by is the quality of the recording at night. With previous models, we didn’t really have any issues. However, with this particular model the images at night were quite grainy without the use of our headlights which is a little strange for a dash cam of this quality.
The Extra Features of the Nextbase 612GW Dash Cam
Fortunately, what this camera lacks in night vision quality it definitely makes up for in extra features. For example, the 612GW boasts two different parking modes, one for the standard dash cam mount, and one for cameras that have been hardwired. These activate the recording feature when you are parked overnight and movement is sensed outside of your car.
As well as this, there are the standard extras that we have come to know and love from Nextbase dash cams such as built in Wi-Fi and GPS features.
Although there are definitely some improvements that Nextbase could make, overall this is a really nice piece of kit for those who want a high end dash cam that is packed with features. It does have its drawbacks, but where it is good, it is really good.
