Motorcycle Dash Cams – Choosing the Best Model for your Needs

As a motorcycle rider, you may think that you can’t benefit from a dash cam. However, with so many millions of people on the road, dash cams are just as important to your safety and protection as they are to car drivers. A helmet cam can be a great investment if you are a regular road user. Here are some of the ways in which you can benefit from getting a motorcycle dash cam:

  • Capture Road Rage Incidents – As a motorcycle rider, you are statistically more likely to encounter road rage incidents than other road users. Unfortunately, these kinds of incidents can get a little nasty. By having a motorcycle dash cam, you can make sure that you are able to record incidents like these so that you can take the footage to the police if you need to.
  • Review your Riding Skills – Riding a motorcycle can be quite dangerous. You are harder to see, and more likely to get into an accident. This is why you need to make sure that your riding skills are as safe as possible. By using a motorcycle dash cam, you are able to review footage of your riding skills, such as when you are filtering through traffic, to evaluate if there are any improvements you can make.
  • Protect Yourself – Unfortunately, there are some drivers out there who probably shouldn’t even be on the roads. These types of drivers can be dangerous to other road users, especially motorcycle riders. To protect yourself, you need to be able to prove it if you have an accident that you are not responsible for. By using a motorcycle dash cam, you can make sure that you capture everything on camera.

Blueskysea

Features:

  • 1080P Full HD Recording
  • 130 Degree Wide Angle Lens
  • Waterproof Fish Eye Lens
  • 2 Channel Recording
  • 7” LCD Screen
  • Super Night Vision
  • G Sensor
  • Loop Recording

The first thing that we really liked about this motorcycle dash cam is how easy it is to install. We had no trouble at all mounting it. The overall design of this dash cam is great. It is small enough to be compact and easy to use, but not too small so that you can’t see the screen properly. At 2.7”, the LCD screen is more than adequate.

The recording quality is actually really impressive for such a compact device. Even in low light conditions we had no problem reading number plates with clarity. The fact that the fish eye lens is waterproof is a big plus. We tested it in adverse weather conditions and had no problems at all.

The only thing that we will say is that you are not confident fitting the dash cam yourself then it is a good idea to have a qualified professional do it for you. It is easy enough, but a little knowledge is required. The only niggle that we have is that the menu is a little difficult to navigate, but once you get the hang of it, it’s not too difficult.

Overall, this is a great budget option for motorcycle riders who want a basic device that does what it says and doesn’t compromise on recording quality.

OXOQO

Features:

  • 1080P Full HD Front Camera
  • 720P HD Rear Camera
  • 170 Degree Front Camera
  • 120 Degree Rear Camera
  • 3” LCD Screen
  • Waterproof
  • Adjustable Sensitivity
  • Night Vision
  • Detached Lens

Starting off, what we really like about this particular motorcycle dash cam is the fact that it has a really sleek, modern design. Neither the front nor the rear camera is obtrusive in the slightest and the mounting of both cameras is a relatively straight forward process with a little know how.

One thing that we really like about the design of the camera is the detached lens. This means that you are able to properly mount the cameras according to the shape of your motorbike, which is great. The LCD screen is the perfect size at 3” and we had no difficulty navigating the menu at all. Everything is laid out neatly and can be seen perfectly.

The recording quality is fantastic from the front camera. Everything can be seen with crystal clear clarity. The rear camera is not quite as good, but this is to be expected with a camera with a lower resolution. We really like the night vision feature; it really does pick everything up well.

The entire unit is waterproof, so traveling in adverse weather conditions is no problem at all. The only thing that we don’t really like is the price. For the price that you can expect to pay, we’d expect the camera to have a few more features than it does. However, in terms of quality, you really can’t go wrong. Our Pick – The Nextbase Ride

Features:

  • 1080P Full HD Recording
  • Waterproof
  • IPx6 Housing
  • GPS Tracking
  • WiFi Enabled
  • G Sensor
  • Built In 1 Hour Battery
  • 5” LCD Screen

In terms of design, the shape of this motorcycle dash cam is a little different to the usual. However, this is something that we like. The IPx6 housing that surrounds the device is great; it keeps things mostly waterproof and also protects the important components of the dash cam itself. This is not something that we usually see with dash cams.

Mounting the dash cam onto your motorcycle is really easy; it took us no longer than 30 minutes. The recording quality is spot on, there are no issues at all with clarity, no blurry images and the footage is not affected by the levels of light. We could easily pick up number plates both up close and at a distance.

Something that really impressed us was the GPS tracking feature. This allows you to pin point the exact location of any incident that you happen to capture, which is great for insurance purposes. You can also map your journey. The only issue that we have with the camera is that it claims to be completely waterproof but we did have a few issues with condensation. However, this is easily rectified.

The 1.5” screen is a little on the small side if you want to watch your footage directly from the device, but the quality is far superior when viewed on a laptop or PC anyway. Overall, this dash cam from Nextbase is a great piece of kit and our top pick.
